Trenchant Capital is an investment issuer that has formed a strategic alliance with one of the largest private equity firms in Canada. This relationship allows Trenchant the ability to offer the investment community an opportunity to invest in private equity backed companies through a secure investment structure. Thus providing the investor Private Equity returns and the potential to participate in the growth of the underlying company.
The alliance with the Private Equity firm provides access for Trenchant to a pipeline of opportunities, all well-established mature companies with solid cashflows and growth potential under the stewardship of experienced management. We will only invest in companies in which we can create a high rate of return for our investors.
Omni Health Investments Inc. owns, operates and manages 18 long term care homes, comprising 1,500 beds, with more than 1,700 employees located throughout Eastern and Southwestern Ontario. Omni has been recognized as one of Canada’s Top 100 Employers, and is the 6th largest long term care operator in Canada. Omni enjoys a reputation for quality of care that is based upon a culture of caring and respect for residents and families, and for the staff members who strive to make each day meaningful for its residents. Trenchant has invested approximately $8M into this opportunity and paid out approximately $790,000 in interest payments to its convertible note holders since March 2018.
In April 2015, Hillcore Group acquired Waiward Steel LP. Waiward Steel is a diversified construction, engineering and drafting services company based in Edmonton, Alberta that has been in business for over 45 years.
Waiward Steel operates one of Canada’s largest steel fabrication facilities, with over 200,000 square feet of fabrication space and the ability to produce up to 1,000 tons per week. With over 600 employees, Waiward Steel has been named one of Canada’s Top 50 Best Managed Companies every year since 2005 and serves multiple sectors across Western Canada and around the world.
Trenchant has invested approximately $8M in debt of Waiward Investment LP (“WILP”), Hillcore’s investment vehicle which owns 82.9% indirect interest in Waiward Steel LP. Trenchant’s investment is secured by a pledge by WILP of its LP units in WHLP and cash distributions. Trenchant has paid out approximately $1.45M in interest payments to its convertible note holders since June 2017.
Trenchant is a team of highly experienced individuals who have financed and managed numerous companies, both private and public. Over the years, the team has established relationships in the financial industry and have come together to provide a unique opportunity to the investment community.
Mr. Boehnke has been the principal of Big Sky Management Ltd., a private company providing corporate finance services to private and public companies since 1996. Mr. Boehnke is a founder of Terrace Energy and served as CEO from June 2011 through October 2013 and currently serves as the Executive Vice-Chairman. With Terrace, Mr. Boehnke was involved in raising in excess of $100 million of capital through both debt and equity financings and was instrumental in developing that Company’s portfolio of oil and gas assets. Over a 15 year career, Mr. Boehnke has been an officer and director of a number public companies including Woodbridge Energy Ltd. and Dynasty Metals and Mining Inc.. Mr. Boehnke holds a BSc from the University of Toronto.
Mr. English has over 20 years of experience in the financial industry and has held numerous senior roles at investment banks including CIBC and Salman Partners. Mr. English has provided financial solutions for both small and large cap companies across all business sectors. During his career he has been involved in transactions across the entire capital structure, including financings (debt, equity, IPO) and mergers and acquisition advisory assignments in Canada, South America and the United States.
Chief Financial Officer & Director
Ms. Choboter, CPA-CA, with over 30 years of extensive experience in financial management and general corporate governance. She has held a number of senior financial management positions in a wide variety of industries including natural resources, technology, pulp and paper and insurance. She has been the CFO of the British Columbia Innovation Council since December 2012. Previously, she served as CFO of Sunward Resources Inc. and has served as an officer of numerous other public companies. Ms. Choboter holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of Calgary.
